Midarr - A Minimal Lightweight Media Server

Emby, Jellyfin and Plex are the three most popular methods to serve your video media. More apps are starting to surface and the latest being Midarr.

What is Midarr?

Midarr in its' current form, is a lightweight (albeit companion) media server to the likes of Radarr and Sonarr. It relies on the integration with these services to serve your MP4 format media untouched and unscathed.

While more fully fledged media server options already exist, Midarr simply compliments as a lightweight alternative.

Midarr Features

  • Free and open source
  • Beautifully crafted user interface
  • Real-time online statuses
  • Simple and easy invite system
  • Integrates with your existing services, Radarr and Sonarr

What does it do?

Your media is retrieved and served through a familiar web interface and provides:

  • User authentication
  • User profile settings
  • User online statuses

The following video format is currently supported:

  • Codec H.264
  • Audio AAC / MP3
  • Container MP4

Final Notes and Thouhgts

The fact that it currently only supports MP4 is a big gap for me. Most media people have is MKV but the H265 container is becoming more and more popular so, Midarr could gain traction in the months to come!

If you find Midarr useful, give it a star on the Midarr Github repo.
